Suga Mamas was born in a kitchen in Scarborough — and like all the best things, it started with love.

Founded in 2020 by Julez Sutton and Shanice Hall, Suga Mamas grew out of something deeply personal. When the world slowed down, Julez found her way back to something that had always brought her peace — baking. What started as a creative outlet during uncertain times quickly became something much bigger. Friends and family kept coming back for more. The requests kept growing. And soon it was clear — this wasn't just a hobby. This was a calling.

Baking has always been in Julez's roots. Growing up in Jamaica, food was how family showed up for each other — how memories were made, how traditions were passed down through generations and carried across oceans into new homes. Coming to Canada in 1993 and settling in Scarborough, those roots never left. They just found a new kitchen.

By 2020 Julez was testing recipes, refining flavours and building something real. She brought the idea to her co-founder Shanice and together they made it official — two women, two sets of hands, one shared vision. Simple cakes. Done right.

Today Suga Mamas is a proudly Black-owned, Caribbean-inspired baking business based in Scarborough, serving customers across the GTA. Every order is made with intention — clean designs, real flavour, and the kind of warmth that only comes from someone who truly loves what they do.

This is more than a bakery. It's a piece of home, wrapped in something sweet.
